Spiekeroog’s local politics — transparent and accessible.
Spiekeroog-Radar is an independent, volunteer civic-tech project. It collects public data from the municipal council information system of Spiekeroog — meetings, proposals, decisions — and makes them searchable and understandable.
What you can do as an island resident
- See what the council is currently discussing — all proposals and meeting agendas are public. → overview
- Attend a public meeting — no invitation needed. All council meetings are public (except the Verwaltungsausschuss, which is closed by law). → dates
- Ask a question during the residents’ question time („Einwohnerfragestunde"), typically near the end of the public part of the meeting.
- Vote in local elections — all EU citizens with residence on Spiekeroog are eligible to vote for the municipal council.
- Sign or initiate a citizens’ petition („Bürgerbegehren") under § 32 of the Niedersächsisches Kommunalverfassungsgesetz (NKomVG).
What it is NOT
- Not an official site of the municipality of Spiekeroog
- Not a replacement for official announcements or meeting minutes
- No political commentary or evaluation
